Earlier this week, we talked to Jillian Exton about how to minimise your "chemical burden" and keep your chemical intake to a minimum. Jill mentioned The Dirty Dozen and the Clean 15 during the chat as a way of doing this. I was curious and this is what we found. (Print this list our for the Fridge).
What is the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15?
The Dirty Dozen are foods that use the highest levels of chemicals during their growing and manufacture.
The Clean 15 are the foods that use the lowest levels of chemicals during their growing and manufacture.
People often say "what foods should I buy organic for and what foods can I buy non-organic?". The Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 is a great place to start.
Dirty Dozen = Higher Chemical Load = Buy Organic
Clean 15 = Low Chemical Load = OK to buy Non-Organic
If you want to chemical loading then organic all the way but if your looking to mix it up (and stretch your organic dollar), start with the Dirty Dozen.
So what food are The Dirty Dozen?
Here they are in order of high chemical to low chemical load.
And what foods and The Clean 15?
Hope this helps. It's a great way to detox without retoxing!
